“Ratatata” you sometimes hear on the radio when someone press the “trigger” in order to “bomb” the clubhouse -but has forgotten that they fly in a sailplane. Other times it happens because they want to inform you that they have managed to get missile lock on you in the dogfight, you didn’t even know you were participating in. Let’s face it, many sailplane pilots dream of flying those powerful and beautiful warbirds, but live in the wrong era to ever realise it. However we can still dream and pretend, which can get those with a lively imagination quite close to that experience.

Flying a sailplane doesn’t mean that you will never face any enemies though. “Oh look a bird, my day is saved, there must be lift over there” you think, so you might leave the weak thermal that could only barely keep you aloft, only to realise it was a seagull! Like a Greek siren, these little suckers have lured many sailors of the sky into depravation with false promises and their crappy thermalling skills. An outlanding is often the result for the inexperienced pilots who did not know better. But it shall end now, let the combat against these flying rats begin!
